Stain color guide

Stain color guide

At my shop I use six different stains, and all of them are based on oil. I don't use any water stains because wetting the plywood often makes it bend. And to straighten it up I need to put it under load and wait a lot of time.

So the colours are as follows:

American walnut

Anthracite

Anthracite

Chocolate truffle

Caramel

Black wood

Old wood

There is also a natural birch color which is achieved by skipping the whole staining part. I just apply two layers of varnish which makes the box more affordable and reduces the making time. This coating has no functional drawbacks and looks good with a black logo.

I can also paint the bird with a transparent yellow or red paint which sometimes looks better with darker stains like Anthracite. Please let me know if you want me to paint the bird with opaque black or yellow/red transparent paint. Otherwise I'll paint it the color I think will look best.

Hope this guide will help you choosing your pochade's color. Have a great day!
